A native of New Jersey, Carol was born and raised in Perth
Amboy, attended St. Mary's High School and received her Bachelor
of Arts degree in Art Education from Glassboro State College
(Rowan University). She taught art in Sayreville, NJ for four
years before leaving to raise a family. In 1981 she returned
to the field of Art, centering her efforts in the area of
watercolors.
While studying
with two local watercolorists Carol was influenced by the
many techniques for watercolor paints. Using a non-traditional
watercolor technique she treats her watercolor paints like
oils. Using very little water and pure paint she layers and
sponges the paint to create her paintings. The use of strong
shadows and rich use of colors give her paintings a photographic
quality. Most of her early paintings were landscapes, depicting
scenes from the rural areas of Northwest, New Jersey, primarily
Sussex and Hunterdon counties. She now centers her themes
around natural floral landscapes
Carol is the recipient
of many awards (including the Grumbacher Medallion, Jurors
Awards & Peoples Choice Awards). She has displayed her
work at major art exhibitions through out the Northeast as
well as several one-woman shows. Her work has been published
in Palette Talk - Issue #102, Fall 1999, a Grumbacher Educational
Publication.
